From March 1st to 3rd, the NGO AIDE, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment of the Union of the Comoros, the NGO CORDIO East Africa, and the Nairobi Convention, successfully organized a regional workshop of the Working Group on Coral Reefs of the Western Indian Ocean. Representatives from South Africa, Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Réunion-France, Seychelles, and Tanzania participated in the meeting. The meeting also benefited from the online participation of officials from GCRMN and the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI). The workshop was opened by AIDE President Mr. Said Ahamada, CORDIO Director Dr. David Obura, Nairobi Convention Executive Secretary Dr. Dixon Waringue, and the Minister of Environment, Fisheries, Agriculture, Handicrafts, and Tourism Mr. Houmedi Msaidié. The importance of aligning the actions of this Reef Network with national and regional priorities for sustainable development was emphasized. After discussions on the progress of activities in respective countries and at the regional level, new terms of reference and an action plan were developed. These documents will be presented to the relevant authorities for validation.
