Expertise in environmental and societal issues
AIDE has twenty-three years of experience and expertise in sustainable development, having collaborated since its inception with the State and its partners in numerous development projects and programs intended for the vulnerable populations of the country and covering several areas of environment and development. The organization is currently working with approximately 30 national experts and 12 volunteers.
It has a database of resource experts that can be mobilized in the southwest region of the Indian Ocean and worldwide.

Knowledge is our core business
All contracts and projects, mainly funded by international donors, contribute to the consolidation of our knowledge and skills base. Our networking power is essential for mobilizing our experts and resource persons.
The trust and good relations established with the personnel of the concerned public and private institutions as well as with community leaders facilitate our work through a practice-based learning approach.

Mission Areas

The main objective of the Association is to contribute to the sustainable development of the Comoros through actions of study, valorization, and protection of the environment.

The NGO AIDE intervenes notably in the following areas:
⇒ Environmental, sociocultural, and socioeconomic assessments
⇒ Monitoring of coral reefs and associated ecosystems
⇒ Social facilitation
⇒ Environmental awareness and education
⇒ Adaptation to climate change and natural disasters
⇒ Development of management and development plans
⇒ Design and management of sustainable and local development projects
⇒ Development of income-generating activities for local communities

Corporate Social Responsibility

The support of vulnerable individuals including the poor, youth, women, and persons with disabilities is at the center of our actions. Diversity is important to us: we want an international workforce with a good gender balance throughout the organization. This includes our top experts and management. Our staff also have excellent diversified development opportunities, tailored to individual preferences and talents. Our employees are sensitized to our Corporate Social Responsibility, which translates into training programs, and which is also an important element in our project and research approach. Our contacts with our stakeholders reflect the expectations stated in our business principles. We strive to ensure respect for our fundamental values and we are active and transparent in our way of working.
Each of our interventions involves both junior and senior experts to ensure better knowledge transfer and capacity building for young people.

Values and Organization

AIDE is guided by a number of values and key principles. These are outlined in our procedural guidelines.
Equity, transparency, accountability, and solidarity are our major guiding principles.
The volunteering of our youth and the participative approach with local communities and stakeholders involved in our projects are at the heart of our working methods.

History

Since 1999, the NGO AIDE has been animating the National Coral Reef Network, affiliated with the GCRMN/ICRI (International Coral Reef Initiative).
AIDE is committed to writing national chapters to contribute to the regional and global report on the state of coral reefs (2000, 2002, 2004, 2008; 2017) with the GCRMN (Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network).

A strong partnership has been established through a memorandum of understanding, data-sharing agreements, and a charter signed with research institutions such as INRAPE COMOROS, other NGOs like CORDIO East Africa and Wild Trust/WildOcean South Africa, ministries (environment, fisheries in Comoros), universities (University of Comoros)....
