On Sunday, May 28, 2023, the National Day for the Protection of Marine Turtles was celebrated in Itsamia, within the Mohéli National Park (PNM). During his speech, the president of our NGO (AIDE), Mr. Saïd Ahamada, emphasized the importance for other localities to follow the good example of Itsamia, which has become a champion village in the protection and tourist valorization of marine turtles and their natural and cultural environment. As for the governor of Mohéli Island, Mr. Fadhuil, he stressed the need for a sincere commitment from local communities so that they can benefit from the support of law enforcement agencies in participatory surveillance against turtle poaching. The entire week from May 22 to 28 was very lively with various socio-cultural and environmental activities organized throughout the island under the supervision of the ADESI Association and the PNM. Finally, he thanked all the partners, notably AFD, UNDP, RPOC, IOC, and EU for their ongoing support.
